1. Min is angry with Tree ear because he wanted Tree ear to put the wood in the kiln, but he never told him to. All Tree ear did was the instructions that Min gave him - to cut the wood and put it in the cart. It is Min's fault because he should have told Tree ear to put the wood in the kiln, but he didn't tell him.
2. I think Tree ear tells him this because he is afraid Crane man will be too kind and will try to do too much work and injure his good leg. This shows that Tree ear cares for and protects Crane-man.

3 Because Min's wife was filling his bowl all the way up again after Tree-ear ate half of it at lunch, so she knew he was taking the food home to someone.
4 The purpose of draining the clay before using it is to smooth it out and get rid of the tiny pebbles and other impurities.
5 He meant that he overhears a lot of conversations or figures things out about the atmosphere around him, and he is like a tree because people don't pay attention to him while he is doing it.
6 - Because she was giving him the extra food, so he felt like doing somethings to thank her.

1. Min is upset because hge told tre-ear to fill the bucket with wood for the keln and he thought he said to fill the keln with the wood he filled the bucket with. tree-ear did not fill the keln so min had to do it late at night and he triped and hurt himself. It was Min's fault because he gave tree-ear the wrong directions. So Tree-ear did what min told him to do, he shouldn't have gotten yelled at.
2. I think Tree-ear told Crane-man to stay home because he knew that his leg was disable. Crane-man would have hurt him self even more. This shows that Tree-ear is caring to Crane-man he wants Crane-man to stay healthy and not injured. Another reason he wanted crane-man to stay home was he wanted to work for braking the box him self not slaking off and getting help. This shows that tree-ear is comitted to paying somone back and trust worthy.
3. I know Min knows the real reason Tree-ear has his own bowl because she kept refilling it so he could take it home and have it for dinner. she wouldn't have refilled it if she didn't think he was taking it home with food still in it.
4. The purpose of draining the clay before making a pot is so you get all the rocks and pebbles out of it. If the pebbels stay in it would ruin the consistancy of the pot. When you drain the clay the pot will come out smooth.
5. He means that Tree-ear's name suited him. it told who he was and his pesonality and told it correctly.
6. Tree-ear did a few chors a round the house for min's wife because she has done so much for Tree-ear he wanted to repay her any way he could.

1. On page 25 and 26 it says that Min was angry with Tree-ear because he didn’t bring the wood to the kiln site and unload it. But Min said, “Fill the cart” and that is what tree-ear did, Min was giving curt instructions to Tree-ear and he did what he said, but he expected more out of him. I think it was Min’s fault because he never told Tree-ear to bring the chopped wood to the kiln site and unload it, he just said to fill the cart.
2. I think Tree-ear told Crane-man to stay home and prepare the evening meal because he doesn’t want him injuring his good leg just to try to help Tree-ear chop the wood because of his injured hand. He probably also told Crane-man not to come with him because if he came, who would prepare the meal? If they did, they would probably not be eating much because it would be dark out, and it would be hard to find scraps and bones in the dark. I think the aspect of Tree-ears character would be showing kindness and caring for Crane-man because he didn’t want him going to work because he might hurt his good leg.
3. Min’s wife knew that Tree-ear and Crane-man were both very poor so she figured out since he brought his own bowl he would bring some of the food back to share with Crane-man. She was being very kind because she kept filling up the bowl to the top with food so there would be enough for both of them. She also found his hiding spot which was a hole dug into the ground where he put the bowl in with a flat rock on top so no animals could get it.
4. The purpose of draining the clay is to get all of the rocks and pebbles and impurities out of the clay mixture (page 42). They did this by pouring the sludge through a sieve.
5. Crane-man said that Tree-ear was aptly named because on Pages 44 and 45 it says “keeping his ears open to the talk of the village life had always been a crucial skill for Tree-ear. News of a wedding, for example, meant that the bride’s family would be preparing much food in the days preceding the ceremony; their rubbish heap would merit special attention during that time. The birth of a son, the death of a patriarch – these events likewise affected the state of a household’s garbage. ” Some clues that Tree-ear learned where if there were extra bags of rice delivered to a house in meant that there was an upcoming feast.
6. Tree-ear did a few chores around the house for Min’s wife because on page 47 and 48 it says “Tree-ear pondered long and hard how to thank Min’s wife. He felt ashamed that there was so little he could do…he would hang around the house, looking for little chores to do – pulling weeds in her vegetable patch or sweeping the yard. And he always made sure to fill the water barrel from the stream before he left for the night.”

1. Min was angry at Tree-ear because Tree-ear didn't bring the wood to the kiln. So Min had to do it himself and he almost injured himself stumbling. I say it's Min's fault not telling Tree-ear the full extent of his work for that day.
2. What Tree-ear said shows that he doesn't let others people take what he signed up for. It also shows he's kind and won't let his friend get caught in what he started. I think Tree-ear tells Crane-man just perpare the food for dinner because he doesn't want his friend to get hurt by getting caught in what Tree-ears done.
3. I think Min's wife knew why Tree-ear brought his own bowl because when he got angry. When the animal got to his hiding place and he threw the bowl and it almost hit her head. I think right then she caught on that he was trying to save the food for Crane-man.
4. The reason you drain clay before you use it is to have a smooth surface. It get smoother because you get rid of all the rocks and then its just smooth clay.
5. Crane-man thinks Tree-ear was named approitly because hes like the trees that know one notices, but then he sees and hears everything. He is the ears of the trees.
6. Tree-ear did samll chores for Min's wife because she was the one that filled up Tree-ear gourd bowl. With dinner for Crane-man and him.

1. Min is angry with Tree-ear because Tree-ear chopped the wood but never placed it in the kiln. Min had to go at night to put it in the kiln. I think it is Min’s fault because he did not say any detail. He just said go chop wood.
2. Tree-ear didn’t want Crane-man to chop wood with him because of his bad leg. He knew that if he did come, he could maybe injure his good leg. Tree-ear shows that he cares for Crane-man and wants him to be safe.
3. Min’s wife was puzzled at first when Tree-ear brought his own bowl. But she probably saw Tree-ear hide the bowl for Crane-man. Then she knew that Tree-ear was bringing his own bowl because he couldn’t take one of Min’s bowls to Crane-man.
4. Clay starts as a liquid that can be found by rivers. Rocks and dirt can be in the liquid so they have to put the clay through a sieve which traps the rocks and dirt so it’s smoother.
5. Tree-ear was called that because he had very good ears so he could listen in on conversation and get the news. He also made very good observations like when he saw Kang doing something secretive.
6. Tree-ear did some chores around Min’s house to thank Min’s wife. When Min’s wife found out about Tree-ear bringing food to Crane-man she started filling the bowl up every time he hid it. But Tree-ear didn’t know how to thank her so he did a few chores.

1) Min is angrey with Tree-ear because when Min sent Tree-ear to the becah to get seashells for the kilm and they had to be a certin size. Tree-ear brought back a a basketful but Min could only use some of them. There for Min was unhappy with Tree-ear for his poor porformince that day.

2)In my opinion Tree-ear tells crane man to stay home instead of chopping wood because crane man only has one leg and needs a crutch to get arround. Tree-ear thought it would be best if he stayed home and took an easy. This shows that Tree-ear is caring and wants people to do whats best for them.
How do you know that Min's wife knew the real purpose of Tree-ear using his own bowl?

3)Mins wife knew the real purpose of Tree-ear bringing his own bowls because she kenew that Tree-ear was an orphan and when the animals ate the food that Tree-ear was saving for crane man, Min's wife saw him hide the bowls and then Tree-ear almost hit Min's wife with the bowl he threw.

4)The purpose of dranning the caly was to make sure that all of the rocks and clumps were out of the clay before Min shaped it.

5)What Crane man menat when he said that Tree-ear was appropriatly named was becasue Tree-ear has very good hearing and scences.

6)Tree-ear did chores around Mins wifes house becasue Tree-ear knew that Mins wife was refilling his bowl for dinner and feeding him good meals and Tree-ear thought that it would be good to do something nice for her.

1. Min was angry when Tree-ear came back to work because when he had chopped the wood the day before, he had not taken it to the kiln. This was not Tree-ear fault because Min had not told Tree-ear to do anything other than “fill the cart.”

2. Tree-ear refused Crane-man’s offer because Crane-man is old and has a bad leg, so Crane-man could get hurt more than Tree-ear if he chopped wood. Tree-ear wanted t be polite so he told him it would be better for him if Crane-man stayed home and made food.

3. Min’s wife knew Tree-ear was an orphan, and when he brought his own bowl, she figured some thing was up. They had plenty of bowls thanks to Min, so it was no trouble at all to give him. She hid out in the bush, and the berries were probably going to be put into the bowl, as Min’s wife most likely deducted that he had somebody h wanted to bring home food to.

4. Draining the clay got water out of the clay so that potters would not have to try to sculp liquidized clay into vases and bowls. The clay was left alone until the water, as it was lighter than the clay , would rise to the top, and from there could be bailed or drained.

5. Tree-ear was aptly named because nobody noticed him, but he had good ears and good eyes that as it says on page 7, he “reads the world”. For example, if a normally sensible man comes home drunk, he may have just had a son.

1. The reason Min is angry is because Tree-ear didnt bring the wood to the kiln site. In my opinion Min is at fault because he didn't give Tree-ear the instruction to bring the wood to the kiln site. Therefore, how was Tree-ear supposed to know.

2. In my opinion Tree-ear says no to Crane-man because he doesn't want him to injure his good leg. The aspect of Tree-ears character that shows is kindess and that he cares for his friend.

3. The reason why I know that Min's wife knew the real purpose of Tree-ear using his own bowl is because she has been refilling it with food each day so that way Crane-man and Tree-ear both can have a real meal for supper.

4. The purpose of draining the clay before it is used for a pot is because Min wants the clay to be smooth it can't be rough or have any bumps or else Tree-ear would have to repeat the process of draining.

5. In my opinion what Crane-man meant when he told Tree-ear that he was aptly named is that he has very good hearing because he hears all the villagers talking about things like celebrations or when a baby was born. What this has to do with his name is that his name has ear in it.

6. Tree-ear did a few chores around the house for Min's wife because he was embarrassed that he hit her in the head with his gourd bowl and she gave him her sons old clothes.

1. In the beginning of the chapter Min is angry with Tree-ear because Tree-ear didn't take the wood to the kiln and unload it like Min wanted him to. I think both Min and Tree-ear are at fault. Min should have told Tree-ear everything he wanted him to do and Tree-ear should have checked with Min when he returned with the wood to see if Min needed anything else done before he left.
2. Tree-ear said it would be more helpful to him if Crane-man stayed home and prepared the evening meal because Tree-ear didn't want Crane-man to hurt his good leg trying to help him chop wood. The aspect of Tree-ear's character that this shows is his compassion.
3. I think Min's wife knew the real purpose of Tree-ear using his own bowl because Tree-ear would hide half of his food in the bowl close to Min's house after he ate lunch. After a few days he started to notice the bowl was full of food again when he returned to the hiding place so I think it had to be Min's wife who was filling the bowl with more food.
4. The purpose of draining the clay before using it to shape a pot was to make it smoother. The more the clay was drained, the smoother the clay would be and that would make the pot smoother.
5. I think Crane-man said that Tree-ear was aptly named because sometimes people didn't notice Tree-ear and he would listen to them talking about food and then go tell Crane-man about it so they might get a better meal. On page 45 Crane-man said "You are like the ears of a scrawny little tree, noticed by none but hearing all!"
6. Tree-ear did a few chores around the house for Min's wife because he was trying to repay her for all the times she refilled his bowl with food to take home to Crane-man each night.

1. Min is angry with Tree - ear, because the day before Tree - ear put the logs next to the kiln and not in it, so that got Min mad. I don't think that it is Tree - ear's fault because he didn't even know how to chop wood, and no one taught him. He had to learn by himself, and he got hurt while chopping wood and he still was working. So I don't think that Min should get mad at Tree - ear because he isn't playing it fair, because he isn't even telling Tree - ear what to do so Min had to go outside to get the wood into the kiln, and tripped it was kind of like karma, because Tree - ear got hurt, and then because Tree - ear got hurt he didn’t put the wood in the kiln and Min tripped and he got hurt.
2. Crane - man asked to help Tree - ear with chopping wood because he knows that tree - ear struggles and hurts his hands doing it so Crane - man wants Tree - ear to rest. Tree - ear didn’t want Crane - man coming because Tree - ear didn’t want Crane - man chopping wood with only one foot, because he can get hurt very hurt. So Tree - ear wanted him to just make dinner so he wouldn’t have a lot of work on his hands.
3. Min's wife find out the purpose of Tree - ear wanting to have his own bowl, because once he was hiding half his food for Crane - man and some animals found it and started to dig into it. So Tree - ear got mad and threw the bowl and it ended up landing on Min's wife's head. So she heard what happen and saw what happened too. I found this out on page 39 and 40.
4. The purpose of draining an objective before you make a pot or something out of the clay is, because there might be rocks or bumps in the clay and if you make a pot with bumps popping out it won't look good. Just like pancakes. If you have the pancake batter lumpy the pancake will come out looking bad. That is just like the pot except the pancake batter is the clay and the rocks are the lumps.
5. Crane - man said that Tree - ear is named appropriately because he knows what's going on around town and he has good ears so he listens to conversion's from other people. So he learns by ears dropping sort of. One page 7 it says "scholars read the great words of the world. But you and I must learn to read the world itself". Saying that Crane - man and Tree - ear have to find out what is happening in the world instead of being told what happened.
6. Tree - ear did a few chores for Min's wife because he felt bad that He threw his bowl at her. Also he feels bad that every day he is getting more food from her. So he wants to show kindness to her.

1. On page 25 it states that Min was angry at Tree-ear because Tree-ear did not fill the kiln with the wood he had chopped so Min had to fill it at night and he tripped because it was dark. In my opinion, this is Min's fault because Min did not give complete instruction to Tree-ear. Min said "Fill the cart with wood" but he should of said "Fill the cart with wood and put it in the kiln."
2. When Crane-Man offers to help chop the wood Tree-ear refuses. Tree-ear refused because Crane man only had one leg and he might hurt his only leg. This shows that Tree-ear is caring and does not want crane man to get hurt.
3. On page 39 it states that Tree-ear decided to bring his own bowl so he could bring it to the bridge to give food to Crane-man. After a while Min's wife noticed that Tree-ear only ate half of the food she gave him. Min's wife started filling up the bowl again because she knew he had to of been feeding something else.
4. The purpose of draining the clay before using it to make a pot is that it takes out tiny pebbles and other impurities to make the clay smooth.
5. When Crane-man said Tree-ear was aptly named he means that Tree-ear is like the ears o a scrawny little tree that is noticed by no one but hearing all. This means that tree ear is not noticed but he knows a lot because he listens to people.
6. Tree-ear did chores for Min's wife because he felt bad that she was giving him food in the middle of the day and also making enough food for his friend Crane-man. This shows great character in both min's wife and Tree-ear.

1) Min is angry with Tree-ear because Tree-ear did not unload the wood into the kiln even though Min did not tell him to. I think it is Min's fault because he never told Tree-ear to unload the wood.

2) I think Tree-ear told this to Crane-man because Tree-ear is afraid that if Crane-man hurts his good leg in the hard labor and not be able to walk. I think this show respect and good character on tree-ears part because he is caring for Crane-man.

3) I think that Min's wife knew the purpose of Tree-ear bringing his own bowl, because she knew that he was an orphan that was poor and only got one meal a day so Min's wife filled it up with extra food for the day.

4) The purpose of draining the clay is to get all of the rocks and minerals out of it so the pot that will be made in the future will not have rocks or scraps in it.

5) I think Crane-man says this about Tree-ear because he is an orphan and is unnoticed like a tree and has very good observation skills.

6) Tree-ear helps Min's wife around the house because since she was filling up his bowl everyday tree-ear wanted to do something in return by help around the house.

In the beginning Min is angry with Tree-ear for two reasons. The main reason is that Tree-ear broke Min’s bowl so he would have to make another one. They are both at fault because tree ear only broke it because Min yelled at him from behind then Tree-ear got shook up and dropped the bowl.

Tree-ear turns the help of crane man down because Tree-ear knew that crane man has a bad leg. It would be extremely hard for Crane-man to cut wood. Or he would probably hurt himself. Another reason is that if crane man went with tree ear who would prepare the evening meals.

Min’s wife knew the purpose of using his own bowl because when she filled up his bowl drank half of it then left it out the animals came and drank all of the soup. Then tree ear got annoyed picked up the bowl and threw it right next to min’s wife head almost hitting her.

The purpose of draining the clay is because it comes from the floor of a Brooke or a bank and there are a lot of rocks and pebbles in the clay so they use the sieve to drain all the clay in one part and the pebbles and rocks in the other.

What Crane-man meant by this was that tree ear has two meaning the first is he is like a tree because he is quiet and very still. The second reason is that the ear part in his name means that he has very good hearing.

Tree -ear did a few house hold chores because tree ear liked to do the work around the house. Like he said he wanted to know how to work just like with the wood and how he cut the trees down to make fire wood for the kiln.

Chapter 3:

1. In the beginning of the chapter Min is angry with Tree-ear because the day before Tree-ear left the wood cart at Min’s house when he was supposed to take it to the kiln, and Min had to take it himself and he had almost injured himself. It was Min’s fault that this happened because he told Tree-ear to fill the cart, not to bring it to the kiln.
2. When Crane-man offered to come with Tree-ear, Tree-ear said that it would be more helpful for Crane-man to cook his meals because he knew that Crane-man would try and cut wood and maybe injure his good leg. This shows that Tree-ear is caring and considerate

Chapter 4:

3. Min’s wife knew the real purpose of Tree-ear bringing his own bowl because when she cleaned it for him he threw the bowl and hit her and she realized that he wanted it full
4. The purpose of draining the clay before using it is to remove enough impurities so it can be used
5. Crane-man said that Tree-ear was aptly named because he could listen to anyone and he was never noticed so he was like a tree with really good ears
6. Tree-ear did chores around Min’s house to thank Min’s wife for refilling his bowl every day

1. In the beginning of chapter 3 Min is angry with Tree-ear because the day before Tree-ear was late when he brought back his load of wood and he forgot to put the wood in the kiln and made Min put the wood in the kiln instead. Min almost broke his back in the process.
2. On pages 26-27 Tree-ear does not want Crane-man to come with him when he chops wood because if Crane-man comes he will see his bleeding hands from his blisters. Then crane-man will want to help and may hurt himself. The aspect of this is that Tree-ears character shows respect and kindness.
3. I know that Min's wife knows the real purpose why Tree-ear uses his own bowl because she has seen the bowl hidden before and might know that he's taken some home.
4. The purpose of draining the clay was to purify the clay.
5. By telling Tree-ear that he was aptly named, Crane-man meant that tree-ear's name suites him very well.
6. Tree-ear did few chores around Min's house because he did not want to deceive anyone.

1.Tree ear is at fault because, page 25 said that Min was mad at Tree ear before he even was at Min's house because he never unloaded the cart at the kiln to be stored.

2.Tree ear told Crane Man to stay home and prepare the evening meal because he knew Crane Man would not injure his good leg. This proves Tree ear has good character.

3. I know that Min's wife knew the real purpose of Tree ear using his own bowl because page 38 states that Tree ear brought his own bowl so he could eat half and give the other half to Crane Man at the end of the day, so Min's wife nodded.

4.The purpose of draining the clay before using it to make a pot is so that the clay to will be just clay and no rocks or dirt in it which could mess up the pot.You do this by stirring, settling, sieving and bailing.

5.When Crane Man said Tree ear was appropriately named he meant that he was named just right for himself and even if he had another name he no longer remembered it.

6.Tree ear did a few chores around the house because it was to show his kindness and consideration for Min's wife because she always feeds him for his work.

CH 1. Min is angry because Tree-ear didn't bring back the wood to the kiln site, therefor Min can't make any pottery.

2. Tree-ear tells him this because on the top of page 27 Tree-ear says Crane-man would want to spare Tree-ear's blistered hand, and would take up the ax himself therefore Crane-man would lean on his crutch which might lead to him injuring his good leg. Tree-ear does't want Crane-man doing his work for him, or getting hurt. This shows that Tree-aer has confidence in him self for being a potter.

3. I know that Min's wife knows the real purpose about Tree-ear using his own bowl because Tree-ear returned the bowl and chopsticks after washing them the day before.

4. The purpose is so that the potters have a nice sought after glaze color.

5. Crane-man said that Tree-ear was appropriately named because it relates with the way he looks. For examle on the bottom of page 45 it says you [Tree-ear] are like the ears of a scrawny little tree.

6. Tree-ear did a few chores around the house for mins wife because he had to think of a way to thank Mins wife for providing food every day for Tree-ear. For example on the bottom of page 47 it says that Tree-ear pondered long and hard about how to thank Mins wife for providing food every day. CH

1 min is angry because his wife gave his sons cloths to a begger boy and his son past avay so min is not wanting to see a poor boy in his sons cloths

2 I think tree-ear said that becaues he didnt want crane-man to hurt his leg any more than it was. The character that it shows is commetment and carring. I said commitment becaues he didn't want help to do the wook that he was having to do. Carring becaues if crane-man helped he would hurt his leg even more

3 I think mins wife knew the real purpose of him using his own bowl becaues when tree-ear put the bowl out in the open andt got eaten he threw the bowl abd it almost hit mins wife. He also would hide half for crane-man and mins wife might of found the bowl and foung out what was going on.

4 What draining the clay does is makes all of the rocks anf leftovers from what else was inside the river wash out.

5 I think he said that becaues tree-ear always new when a person died or when he saw a drunk man he would go to their ribbish heaps and they had o chanse of haveing s chicken bone or something like that

6 he did that so she would forgive him for throwing the bowl at her

1: Min was angry at Tree-ear because Tree-ear was supposed to drop the wood at the kiln after he cut it but instead he left the wood at the house for Min. But this is Min’s fault because he was curt and just told Tree-ear to fill the cart with wood.

2: Tree-ear tells Crane-man that he should stay home because he didn’t want his friend to hurt his only good leg. This shows that Tree-ear has good character because he was kind and caring towards Crane-man.

3: Min’s wife knew the real purpose because since Min was a potter and so they have plenty of plates and so she knew something was up.
